Dear Chanita and Lactnetters,
Just wanted to add that our local LLL Group has been holding meetings in
the childbirth preparation classroom of our local regional medical center for
quite a few years. The maternity unit and the hospital as a whole have been
very gracious in allowing us the free meeting space, a place to permanently
and securely store our library, and in a room where we have no patient
contact (and it has a bathroom and a sink for drinking water!) We have a
wonderful rapport, I think, with the maternity nursing staff who give our
names/numbers when needed. The staff LC is an LLLL with no Group
affiliation, and one of the childbirth instructors is my co-Leader:)
I tried for quite some time to come up with an alternate site (churches,
community centers, etc) but no one had all the amenities that our hospital
offers. Yes, there is a question of whether moms "connect" LLL with the
hospital, but the overwhelming number of moms (about 20-25 each month) do not
deliver at this hospital nor have any other prenatal connection to it. And
our Group is so large that meeting in homes would be *impossible*!!!
