"One spring day Judy's husband-"Tom" will do for him- was canoeing on the
flood-swollen Susquehanna River. There he found a week-old beaver that had
apparently washed downstream from a nest or lodge destroyed by high water.
Thinking it would die or be eaten by a mink or raccoon, Tom took the little
animal home. The kit could or would not drink formula from an eyedropper or
a rubber nipple, but eagerly accepted Judy, who was nursing the couple's
three-month-old daughter. Judy continued to suckle the foundling until it
was able to eat minced fruits and vegetables."
