Just a quick note for the person who commented on the need for a national (US)
breastfeeding promotion effort:
The USDA and Best Start Social Marketing have launched a large breastfeeding
promotion effort called "Loving Support Makes Breastfeeding Work." This WIC
National Breastfeeding Promotion Project is appropriate for all mothers and
initially funded by the US Government. There are great materials available at
low cost (videos, public service announcements, bill board sinage, brochures,
posters) from:

There are also many state efforts at promoting breastfeeding. Texas Department
of Public Health has lots of materials. Here in Massachusetts, we have a
statewide breastfeeding coalition that just published a guide to breastfeeding
resources in the state (and nationally). It will be distributed to all
pediatrics offices and hospitals with maternity services. Out State Department
of Public Health has put tremendous support into this and uses part of its
Title V money to promote and support breastfeeding.
If you are interested in breastfeeding promotion effeorts, check with your
state to see what they are doing.
