Lori,
Is the class you are teaching for working nursing mothers geared
to pregnant women or women on maternity planning their return to work?
My recent research on nursing in the workplace indicates that it
is important for nursing mothers and employers to explore inwhat
ways they can be flexible. the longer maternity leave can be extended, the
better. Phaseback into work is also worth looking into. Pahseback means that
women return to their full hours slowly rather than going from full matenity
'leave to full time all at once. Telecommuting (doing at least part of your workfrom home is also helpful. It is best to approach one's supervisor before maternity leave or as early as possible agter the birth.
One of the intersting things I found in my study was how creative
mothers and supportive employers could be in helping women to
continue to nurse upon return to work.
I'm in the process of writing some of this up for publication
although I don't know what kind of time line you're working on. I'll
keep lactnet posted regarding when adn where it is published. In the
