Hi all,
I have a friend who is 32 weeks pregnant, having many complications and will probably deliver around or before 35 weeks. She is, starting today, now on weekly steroid shots to help the baby's lung mature in preparation for an early birth. Her perinatologist mentioned that one side effect of the steroid is that her milk may come in before the baby is born, and she would then experience some engorgement.
Has anyone heard of this/had any experience with this?
What are the ramifications of having her milk come in this early? Will it affect her milk supply after the baby is born?
I guess I am rather mystified because I thought the trigger for milk coming in was the hormonal changes brought on by the delivery of the placenta. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
