Victoria,
I'm not sure if this will be helpful or not, but since there hasn't been much
response from women who have had this surgery, I offer my experience. I had a
walnut-sized benign lump removed from one breast while nursing a 2-year-old.
No problems for about two days, when suddenly the stitches gave way, and I
found myself standing over a sink, crying, as milk poured out the incision
into the sink. This was about 18 years ago and I don't have a clear memory of
what happened next, but I did stop nursing from the affected breast (not a
problem for the child who nursed another three years--a bit traumatic for me
at the time). I nursed my next child from both breasts with no problems
whatsoever. I believe the incision, though small, was across the "skin
lines."

<<now she
has a large incision that leaks milk all the time. She says as much or more
than the baby is taking. She has switched MD's (!) and the one she is
seeing now would like her to stop nursing on that side wear a compression
bandage (tight bra) and dry up the milk supply long enough to heal the
ducts. He then apparently assumes she can Bfd on that side again.>>
