Well, it has happened. I have encountered a mother whose 3 week old throws
up every bit of formula given her. The mother came to rent a pump, and then
asks me WHAT FORMULA to give her when the baby is 4 mo old since she plans
to just STOP the pumping (when she is at work) and give the baby formula in
her absence!!!!!
Now, wouldn't you THINK that the baby throwing up would be a pretty obvious
sign formula is NOT the food of choice for this baby?
After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I suggested (as gently as I could
muster) that her baby's signs were pretty likely to mean that she could not
deal with being fed something made by a cow and might she not think of
holding off such exposure... so then she asks me what FORMULA to give
instead of the S....c...
Sorry, folks, I couldn't help myself. I suggested that perhaps she should
a) ask her doctor, and b) taste whatever brand was suggested and shemight
want to start by asking about one of the "pre-digested" forms (they are so
foul I am hoping she smells it and decides this is NOT something her
daughter should be asked to eat! I am sorry, but I could not help
myself)--with a perfectly straight face.
So.... I am asking for comfort as I know I done wrong, but I could not
restrain myself I was in such shock. Here where everyone breastfeeds to
hear this from the mouth of someone who looked quite intelligent. I was
simply blown away! Can anyone help me get over this?
