There is no *need* for galactologues, but they do result in the mother
producing more milk. I suggest the mother start pumping, and if she
wants, give her a script for the galactologue as soon as there is a baby
"in sight". The sooner it starts, the better. But there is no point in
pumping 6 or 7 times a day when the baby is due to born 6 months from
now. Not that it would hurt as far as milk production is concerned, but
we don't want to turn this into a "job". For more info, check the url

and go to the handout called Breastfeeding your Adopted Baby. Darrylyn
Starr (hope the spelling is right) has lots of info and experience in
this field. The real issue is: does the adoptive mother want to
*breastfeed* or does she want to provide breastmilk? The two are not
the same. If she wants to breastfeed, no problem, and she can look at
any breastmilk the baby gets as a bonus. If she wants to breastfeed
exclusively, she is almost certain to be disappointed, though a few
adopting mothers have produced all the milk the baby needs.
