The baby can be directly upright on mom's chest in the sling too.  I used
the original S...-word with my babies and I wore it on my back.  I don't
find the present ones by that company to be very useful for a newborn.  I
show mom how to secure baby on her chest with her sling, leaving both hands
free and baby snug and warm against her body. At a conference I had a
representative show me how to do it.
