There are several anecdotal experiences now of mothers' milk "drying up"
after depoprovera. Of course, these anecdotes are not proof, but one
worries that in our haste to render women infertile, we are not, at the
same time, interfering with other biologic functions as well, like
breastmilk production.
I would put this woman on metoclopramide (if in the US), or domperidone
if in other countries. It may help.
I have also suggested, in the past, that women should, if they need a
birth control hormone (and do they?, does not breastfeeding or pumping
decrease the risk of pregnancy?), should be started on the progestin
only pill for a month. If there is no effect on the milk supply, and if
depoprovera then seems the right approach, it can be given. But you can
stop a pill, you can't take out the depoprovera.
