While Muslim parents are certainly thankful to God at the birth of a new baby,
the more exact reason they shave baby's hair would be based on hadith
(traditions of Prophet Mohamed) which says that it is a good thing to do...for
reasons of cleanliness.  This is often coupled with the slaughter of a lamb
which is purely for an expression of gratitude.
