I just had a baby here last night who was 5 days old, 5 lb or a little less,
and would not suck for beans.  I put a temporary SNS on her, and put the
tube under the shield, which then got the baby sucking.  The baby would not
latch without it, and mom had been trying for days.

Baby fed long and well, and I would not personally try any big red nipple
shield.....It was hard enough deciding to try a thin silicone one. Just my
opinion.
