Often it is easier to diagnose the fracture when the callus is forming (it
is like a hard lump on the collar bone). So, when we're seeing a baby a
couple of weeks old, we may be more likely to diagnose this than
immediately postpartum (if noone was expecting a fractured clavicle). I
always try to check the clavicles when seeing babies even if not doing a
complete checkup. Occassionally you will pick up a healing fracture - and
seem really clever!
