Since this has been a recent topic I thought you'd like this. Sunday I was
called at 9 am about a mother scheduled for a c/s at 1pm. The baby was going
to have surgery later in the day and would be transfered to Vanderbilt. I was
on call and had other patients so saw her around 4pm. I explained what we
were going to do. She immediatly tells me she isn't going to use the milk,
she just wants to pump to get back into shape!!! I then said- aren't you
going to give the milk to the baby? She had not even considered it. She has
a premie, that has the stomach and intestines not covered by skin, requiring
surgery and long recovery. I can't spell the correct term. After we
discussed why the milk might be useful she was enthusiastic about "doing
this". Somedays I just want to stay home.'
