The degree of prolapse that is described here :"she can feel it and see
something protruding when squatting over a mirror" is very common and
can often be corrected with good physical therapy- seems  unlikely that
surgery would be necessary.  She should see a PT who specializes in
OB-GYN treatments. There are some new and sophisticated physical therapy
techniques available to treat such things.
