I am working with a mom who has been for years on Wellbutrin (bupropion) for
years for attention deficit disorder. She states there is no other medication
she could take. She has not been taking it during pregnancy and has been
informed she cannot take it during breastfeeding. Her baby is now two weeks
old and she is having a breastfeeding problem. She may not be willing to do
what is needed to resolve the problem if she can only breastfeed for a couple
of months. (She cannot do her work, which is intellectual in nature, without
the drug, and is even afraid to drive without it, so going without for a
longer time is not an option.) In addition, she would like to breastfeed as
long as possible due to family allergy history.
I have searched the Lactnet archives and found very little. Also Tom Hale's
book and Lawrence. It doesn't sound like there's anything definitive I can
tell the mom. Can anyone give me any further information? You can e-mail me
privately or post on Lactnet. Thanks! Miriam
