Patricia,

The word for breastfeeding in Japanese is Opi (sp?) (pronounced with a
long i ).  My understanding is that it refers to a lactating breast and
baby nursing at the breast.  I will try to get more information on this.
Many of the words I have come acrossed  in other languages do not refer
to feeding, but nurturing, calming, etc.  In Vietnamese the word used is
their word for milk.
