Now, hold on a second. Why is this fluorescein so much more toxic than
any other drug we have been talking about on the Lactnet for the past x
months? Is it somehow more toxic than clindamycin? Digoxin? Nifedipine?
I've used fluorescein in babies' eyes frequently, as a way of picking up
corneal abrasion. Okay, the mother will get it IV. But then the
concentration in her serum will likely be very low. Secondly, the baby
will *not* be getting it IV. What effect does this fluorescein have on
the baby's mucous membranes except make them a nice colour, which nobody
can see anyways. And if some does indeed get absorbed--what of it?
Fluorescein is not cyclophosphamide after all.
What exactly are we worried about here? Frank, Tom?
