I received two notes from the Post's ombudsman this morning.  Rather than
reproduce our entire exchange, I'd just like to put here the last thing she
wrote, which was very encouraging (despite the writer's apparent inability to
find the <shift> key).

i found your further communcation with a copy of john kelly's message, which
is unforgivably arrogant, i'm very sorry he responded to you in that way,
and have passed along my views about that to him, as well.

we are indebted to readers who communicate their views to us rather than
writing us off. i regret that we have a way to go here before all of us
remember that -- and cease to write the readers off instead.
