Just suffered a nursing strike with my own 11 month old. Very unpleasant,
luckily it only lasted 5 days (felt like much longer). I'm pretty sure it
started because of a bite and my reaction (loud and apparently scary).
After no nursing on day one, baby would nurse while sleeping ONLY, for
three days. Then gradual return to breast. He looked constantly for my
reaction to his biting/teething. Only when I showed no reaction (not easy)
did he finally settle. La Leche pamphlet "how to handle a nursing strike"
was helpful, if only to prove others went through this. Unsupportive people
all said baby was obviously trying to wean, but in my view baby was far too
unhappy about the situation to be creating it on purpose.
