I think mothers' bf'ing issues after sexual abuse runs the whole gamut of experiences. I have mothers who have found it to be healing. I have mothers with such extreme issues they can't bear the thought of putting the baby to breast. I have some mothers with extreme nipple or breast sensitivity, which sometimes relates back to sexual abuse, and they can't stand having the baby at the breast, though they thought they had wanted to breast feed. I have dealt with one mother who couldn't hold her first baby anywhere near her chest, and couldn't stand the pump; the second baby she provided with her own milk pumped, and the third baby she breastfed. It took 2-3 years between each baby, and lots of work with various types of counselors, but she was very proud that she could finally "do it" with #3.

Sincerely, Chanita, San Francisco
