Hello friends...My 76 year old mother shared a touching story with me this
evening that I want to pass on...I'll try not to drone on, but hope you
like it as I did...
A young English woman during WWII, my mother was living with her
parents in the family home in Brighton. Her husband was a pilot at war, and
was shot down and perished when my brother was 3 months old...he never saw
the boy. Her sister was also living there with her infant daughter. Around
the same time as the death of my brother's father, the sister became
seriously ill with TB and was moved to a sanitarium, leaving the baby
daughter behind ,(who was weak and sickly herself). My mother in her grief,
found comfort in the care and feeding of these two children. She breastfed
both, restoring the little girl to health. . She told me that her ability
to sustain these children was the most powerful influence in surviving
this devastating period. Her milk supply was abundant. She described the
peace and joy in supporting life while the world was falling apart around
her. I have a new respect and admiration for my mom tonight.
Our work is so important. Respectfully, B.Warner RN IBCLC
