I already answered this directly as I too was asked directly. But it
is worth putting it on Lactnet as well.
Why would a baby with congenital CMV not be able to breastfeed?
1. The mother is not infectious. She had the infection months ago.
2. Even if she were, the baby already has the infection and the
damage.
3. CMV in postnatal life is not usually anything but an extremely
minor illness with no consequences, *unless you happen to be
pregnant*.
4. Sick babies need breastmilk and breastfeeding more, not less.
