In a message dated 97-11-11 18:03:36 EST, you write:
<< The
growth is now approx 1 cm. Tongue is deviated to the side because of it.
Physician does not want to operate to remove it. Feels that 1) baby is too
young and 2) growth will probably only recur causing multiple operations to
remove as it grows back. Told mom that surgery will not make the baby nurse
better because tongue would be too painful. Wants to wait til child is at
least 12 *years* old! >>
My first recommendation is that the mom get a second opinion. Perhaps a
pediatric ENT? (Ear, nose & tongue??)
In any case, this needs to be checked out. If it is causing a deviation of
the tongue at 4 weeks, what will it do by the time the child is 12?
It is already interfering with ADL -- activities of daily living if the baby
can't breastfeed. She should see someone else.
Jan Barger -- currently in Lombard where we are going to have the first
clinical instructor workshop tomorrow!!
