Diane: I agree about the creeping oil. The skin has minute lines that
act as channels for oils. There are many other suitable massage
oils...light olive oil is one, but one still needs to consider whether
there are pesticide residuals (the old lanolin-DDT problem with
importation). The safest way to go is to find an oil one likes that is
produced organically in the US and then add whatever you need for the
effect you are seeking. So, I make calendula massage oil out of organic
safflower oil by heating (not boiling) the safflower oil and pouring it
over the calendula (pot marigold) and letting it sit. It's far cheaper
than prepared massage oils and you know what you're getting. The allergic
reaction risk with peanut anything is just to great when you look at the
relative risks.
