When storing milk in plastic bags, they should use a double bagging
system and then keep the bagged milk in a rubber, or plastic freezer
proof container. This keeps the milk protected and also keeps the bag
from getting punctured.
Also the milk should be kept in the back of the freezer away from the
door.
Milk stored in this fashion should last up to 3-4 months. A self
defrosting freezer runs on a cycle of warming and cooling and does not
keep foods as fresh as a freezer that needs defrosting.
I keep milk in a deep freeze in the milk bank for up to 1 year and have
never had rancid milk. Hope this is helpful.
