I have a Mom who has been experiencing constant burning in her throat
due to acid reflux. She is currently nursing her 12 mo. old daughter
and would like to cont. for at least another year. She has been taking
OTC antacids, such as Tums with little relief. Her MD would like her to
take cimetidine or ranitidine, or one of the Rx antacids, but is
encouraging her to wean due to contraindications for nursing. She
clearly is not ready to wean. I am currently at home with a small child
and do not have access to the resources to look up this info., and would
greatly appreciate any feedback on this topic. Are the above drugs
truly contraindicated? If so, are there other options for treating acid
reflux? TIA.
