Well, I find myself disagreeing with Dr. Hale. There is nothing about
this baby to suggest he is fragile. Small for gestational age is not
necessarily fragile. We recommend immunizations, including oral live
virus polio, for premature babies, even tiny ones, at the *usual* time,
even if they are only 4 pounds or less when they are two months old.
The titre of attenuated virus which gets into the milk is low. And
because it is given orally, is unlikely to cause severe problems. The
one year old who gets an MMR is not in the same boat.
