I have refered a baby via a Pediatrician to an oral surgeon. The surgeon
fitted the infant with an oral plate. Since the infant had no other
problems and was feeding well it was then referred to the Level 3 Center for
further treatment. The only problem was frequent refitting of an obdurator
until surgery was done. We used an upright nursing position and the
mother's breast also closed a cleft lip after birth. An encouraging
Pediatrician, available oral surgeon, and phone consulting with the Level 3
team helped things go smoothly.
