I think sometimes it doesn't help to keep going back to certain people
with articles, etc. I would just give the families the correct info and
help. I address this issue in prenatal bf class. One could say that even
tho aap gives these new recommendations, some peds still give other
advice. We even have a handout from dr. jack on how to tell if the hcp is
supportive or not. This can be given to parents. I would say to the mom,
that I disagree with the recommendations of the ped in regards to the bf
management and I feel that bf will suffer for it. If you are credible she
may follow your advice instead of peds. She may find another
pediatrician. If she follows the ped's advice, she may very well see your
dire prediction come true.
The best fed babies are breastfed babies!
