I would recommend that the mother have a therapeutic massage with a good
massage therapist. I have found breast and nipple problems are sometimes
related to muscle strain and tension, particularly in the back. There should
be focus on that band of muscles that are under where the bra would be in
back. Of course, shoulder and arm areas would need to be considered too.
I suggest many of my clients get a therapeutic massage after giving birth
because it can get the "kinks" out. And even if it doesn't resolve the
nipple and breast problem it was a well-deserved treat.
I caution the moms to be sure that the therapist puts a rolled up towel or
pillow under her abdomen so that her breasts aren't pressed under the weight
of her body.
