Hi All,
I've been working with a baby for 3 months who would not latch. This kid
was hooked on the haberman bottle. He was born at 34 weeks and had only
latched-on to mom a few times. I did EVERYTHING in the books and not in the
books to assist, to no avail.
Well, a public health RN says to this mom, " Just do it cold turkey, no
bottles, and no food, just breast, until he gets hungry enough." We all
know this is not a good idea and we would never suggest this. Well guess
what? IT WORKED! This mom called me today with the news, after 8 hours of
no food this babe got so mad and hungry he took the breast. He continues to
nurse and I'm very amazed. Timing is everything with these little people
and I do believe this babe turned some developmental corner but I am
intrigued by this method and wanted to hear from other. well Jan, what do
you think?
warmly,
Star Siegfried RN,BA,IBCLC
