A mother with recent-onset MS (<4 yrs) is completely bed-ridden. PTs
comes into her home 3x/wk to help move her into a chair.
She is about 16 wks pregnant and takes Dilantin 3x/day to control
seizures. Her neurologist says that there is an exaserbation of MS symptoms
after childbirth,so he will put her on heavy IV doses of "Beta____" (the
name of the drug given by the mother to a HD nurse) 3x/wk. He says that
because of med. she may not bf after the birth, and wants her to begin
PUMPING NOW to storing up milk. Yikes!
I'm wondering if the MS med. is betamethasone. After reading effects of
Dilantin, that seems much more of a danger to the unborn child than the
betamethasone afterward.
I would appreciate any info you can share.
