Recent External Assessments for the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative in Australia have resulted in three Victorian hospitals becoming "Baby Friendly". There have been assessments in other States as well, but I do not have that information.

CONGRATULATIONS to Wangaratta Base, St John of God Hospital in Geelong, and Knox Private. These hospitals achieved a high level of compliance with the Global Criteria, and truly impressed the assessors.

The hospitals will be arranging their own celebrations to mark the presentation of the awards.

Joy Johnston, Midwife, IBCLC
Convenor - Baby Friendly Victoria

"Baby friendly hospitals, models of modern maternity care in settings around the world, create environments that restore to women their authority over breastfeeding, their own natural resource."
(Murray S 1996. Baby Friendly Mother Friendly. Pub Mosby.)
