It will be several years (at least) before any new growth charts specific to
breastfed babies are available for general use. And, if any of the
researchers ever include how often baby was fed (demand fed several times an
hour vs. scheduled) and where baby sleeps (with mom or in a crib in another
room) we may find that we don't need new growth charts after all. That is,
that the reason some breastfed babies don't grow as well as the current
charts (which are a mix of breast and bottle fed kids) is because they are
being breastfed on a 2-3-4 hour schedule (leading to both low quantity and
low fat content milk) and are being encouraged to sleep alone and through
the night at a very early age (like at 3 months instead of the more normal 3
years). Just my ever-so-humble opinions.
