The following is translated from a letter published in  Germany's AFS
(BFing organization) monthly newsletter.  It is taken from a letter written
by a German woman, an activist Ph.D. in the field of Mothersmilk and good
nutrition.  she writes to the governmental research minister.  The
translation is mine; I think the topic touches on several recent Lactnet
discussion points...

Colette Leick-Welter reports to the minister that she has found info from
USA, Australia and New Zealand which shows that the Pertussis vaccination
followed by the polio vaccination can cause crib death.  She has contact
with mothers who have babies who have died from crib death shortly after
having been vaccinated.

The explanaition for this phenomenon, she writes, came in part from Viera
Scheibner in Australia, but more impressive is the explanation from the
American veterinarian Dr. Robert C. Reisinger, why "Bottle Feeding,
Vaccinations, Tobacco, and Stomach sleeping"alone or together can promote
SIDS.  Only a vet would be able to discover this because he does not  need
the permission of parents to do an autopsy on calves, so he can do one
without any time loss.  Here lies the secret: Endotoxin is so horribly
poisonous that only minute amounts can cause death.  Ani mals die from
larger amounts  than humans; on the other side  Endotoxin  quickly
decomposes in the body after death.  With time delay before autopsy, and
the disappearance of the minute amounts of this toxin, this toxin could
never be found in babies.  The toxin occurs on the one hand by pathological
gut flora thru E.coli in formula fed babies, and the other hand by the 
decomposition of blood platelets from the effect of tobocco toxins and
through high stress which Vaccinations cause.  When the baby sleeps on its
stomach the toxins can spread in a dangerous way in the gut.  The
detoxification system of the liver comes into play.  By bottle fed babies
is this system overtaxed because the formula consists of too many and
partially changed proteins, too many electrolytes, as well as other
ingredients not belonging to our species.

Leick-Welter's suggestions:  (somewhat shortened)

1.  Explain to the women of the world why BFing so important is. ( thru
LLL, for example)

2.  Vaccinations be given after the 3rd year of life.  The immunsystem of
an infant is not yet mature enough to develop an artificial immunity.  This
is a reason why mothers milk is so important: it is rich in
gammaglobulines.  One could predict that SIDS would drastically be reduced
with later vaccinations.  Further side effects:  also modern illnesses,
which didn't exist before the turn of the century, would also decrease: 
Allergies of every kind, auto-immune diseases, hyperactiviy, CD and ADD,
autismus, asocial and criminal behavior in children, juv. diabetes, cramp
attacks and more.

3.  No smoking whereever a baby is nearby.  Smoking parents should be told
that they are doing physical damage to their babies if they do smoke around
their babe.

4.  Mothers should understand why sleeping on the stomach can cause SIDS.  

5   Sleeping alone creates immense stress for a baby.
