Normal lithium levels *are* zero.  This does not mean she needs to take lithium.  The use of
lithium is based on clinical, not laboratory, criterea.  I would get a second opinion.

Lithium is not necessarily contraindicated during breastfeeding.  The baby's blood levels can
be followed.  Other drugs, which are more compatible with breastfeeding could be used,
depending on the mother's problems.
