I live in Virginia and the following article was in my local paper
today. Do any of you know Dr. Clevenger??????
"Breastfeeding aids immune system
Philadelphia - Why is it that breast fed babies have fewer infection and
allergies than bottle fed babies?
The reason is that breast milk is much more than just food, said Dr.
Charles V. Clevenger of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center.
"Its also a bioactive compound containing antibioties that defend
against infection and hormones and growth factors that direct the
infant's immune system to develop fully and appropriately."
Clevenger said his studies shown for example, that the hormones
prolactin , which plays a role in breast tissue development during
puberty , pregnancy and lactation, also helps stimulate immune-system
cells in the infant"
