Dr. Mimi: Have you tried Elizabeth Lee Designs? Also, one of my favorite
was to alter regular patterns is to find those with false vests (attached
at the sides) and put slits in underneath the vest part. Another elegant
way to adapt clothing is to find kimona-style tops and put slits in under
the parts that tie in the fron or side. I've also taken fitted or rib-knit
dresses and put slits in the front and then "built" a shell or jacket or
false vest right around the existing dress. While I very much appreciate
that Motherwear is available to nursing moms who don't sew or don't have
the time, many of their dresses can be made with the same material for a
sixth of the cost--counting pattern used only once. Many of the designs
take very little time. Elizabeth Lee has both the simple designs and some
much more complicated and elegant designs. I also appreciate that
Motherwear has been an ardent supporter of La Leche League INternational,
so I do occassionally break down an purchase an item or two--I want to see
them stay in business).
