Hello All!
I am a new subscriber to this fantastic list and I have really enjoyed the
posts so far! I have two little girls (20 months old and 6 weeks old) and
have just applied to a Lactation Consultant training to be held in November.
I have a Master's degree in Family Communication and currently teach at a
local community college.
My question concerns the future regarding the role of lactation consultants
within the healthcare field. Since so many hospitals are hiring full and/or
part-time lactation specialists -- is there a need for consultants in private
practice? Does the supply (training participants) meet the demands?
Also, how does one go about obtaining the specific clinical experience needed
in order to take the LC exam (I'm not a nurse!)? And how long does it take
on the average?
I apologize to the list if these questions are inappropriate and please feel
free to e-mail me privately. I am very excited about the possibility of
beginning a new career in this field and have so many questions and nowhere
to go for answers!?!
Thanks in advance for your support and encouragement!
