I read Val's post about her babies being attractive to mosquitoes, so there
are no absolutes in this topic..
Mosquitoes are claimed by some as Wisconsin's state bird. :)
When my baby was fully breastfed she wouldn't get any bites, while the rest
of the family got bites on all exposed areas. I often wondered why. I
attributed it to the flavor of her sweat. As soon as she began solid foods
she, too, was tasty to the critters. I haven't asked others here who are
exclusively breastfeeding. It could have to do with maternal diet too.
There is a B vitamin (I forget if it is 1 or 2) that causes one's sweat to
repel mosquitoes. It is sold in pharmacies here called "Skeeter Tabs." We
would often take a B complex or brewer's yeast before heading off to the
woods and it seemed to help.
This will be an interesting topic on Lactnet.
