Dear Chris,
I had to respond to your post about this subject. I have believed in the
power of the mind since nursing school (and probably before that.) We see
this so much in life on a daily basis (ex. blushing at a joke, driving
somewhere we've been before and "don't know how we got there," knowing in
advance the lyrics of a song we are just hearing for the first time in many
years, etc.). I knew I could put this to good use in my professional life AND
in bf counseling. I became a certified hypnotherapist and not only deal with
the smoke cessation and nail biters etc., but have found it to be EXTREMELY
helpful with moms who have real or perceived insufficient milk production.
One example: a mom of a 6 week old came to my office POSITIVE she had no
milk...maybe a few drops. I always interview, take a detailed history and
develop a specific hypnotic induction for each person( in addition to the
lactation portion of the consultation, and if the mother wants this help.)
Well, this woman happened to be such a good subject, that during the
induction phase of the consultation (baby is in another room with an
accompanying adult), her whole shirt front got saturated with milk. When it
was completed, she said, "I feel cold," Not surprised, she was all wet.
This is yet another avenue for helping moms.
