I have a patient with a two year old who breastfeeds
3-4 times each 24 hours. Mother has been diagnosed
with shigella; treatments with sulfamethoxazole and
trimethoprim have been tried but not effective.
Physician is suggesting only choices left are those
contraindicated during bf (Fluoroquinolone antibiotics
such as ciprofloxacin). I searched the Lactnet
archives but found nothing helpful for this situation.
Any Lactnetter opinions will be appreciated.
