Although I'm not as eloquent as many of you, I also dashed off an email
after becoming depressed with her website. My angle was to point her in
an appropriate direction. Here are my comments:
Dear Dr. Paula,
I found your web page to be full of interesting information and very
pleasing to navigate. However I have to wonder about the validity of
the information as I KNOW some of the information on breastfeeding is
inaccurate. It makes me question the rest of your page/links as well.
I know it is difficult for doctors to keep up with everything. In the
area of lactation, where new research is constantly correcting older
notions and myths, this is especially true. There is at least one
excellent journal that helps us in that end. It is called the Journal
of Human Lactation. It is available from International Lactation
Consultants Association (ILCA). Check out THEIR web page at
http://www.ilca.org/ . I'm sure it will help you see how to improve on
the information you are providing on your page.
It is your responsibility to your very vulnerable little patients that
their parents be supplied with information that is both up-to-date and
accurate. My suggestion is that you either up date your breastfeeding
information or delete it altogether. Misinformation is worse than no
information at all.
