I try to say, "when your milk supply builds" or "when your MATURE milk comes
in" when talking to parents. I liken colostrum to "sweetened condensed milk"
(take THAT, Carnation!), an early "treat" for baby that's high in calories
and antibodies, etc.

My "pet peeve" phrase is "pulling the baby off" to reposition. I've pointed
out to a couple of our nurses who use this phrase (as in, "I told her to pull
the baby off & try again if it hurts") that new moms tend to be quite literal
in their interpretation of info, and may actually BE pulling baby off nipple
without breaking the suction first.

Carol in St. Louis where it rained again today when it was supposed to be
sunny :-(
