Greetings lactnetters,
I can't take credit for the idea of having the caregiver hold the baby's
back to caregiver's chest and walk around as a way to get reluctant baby
to take the bottle, I believe that I got that great idea from the
"Nursing Mother's Companion", by Kathleen Huggins. That wonderful book
was my "bible" while nursing my first baby and still recommended in the
classes I teach.
I was very interested in the Walmart post as we had a similar incident
in the local walmart earlier this year. A mother was asked by a walmart
employee to stop nursing her baby in the snack bar area. The mother
complained to the manager and got little support. Another employee
followed the mother from the store and apologized for the behavior. The
local paper picked up the story and that started a pro and con debate on
the editoral page of the paper for several weeks afterward. As far as I
know this mother filed no formal complaint. Please keep everyone
informed as to the developments in Ohio especially if they will effect
walmarts nationwide.
Keep up the good work,
Lori Werrell, IBCLC
