A mother reported to me that she is taking 20 drops daily of a tincture
from Cnicus benedictus L. Says she has been pumping more milk as a result.
Maybe Lisa is on to something because this plant is an important ingredient
of many stomach teas and alcoholic herbal extracts as well as bitter
liquors. (which help digestion). It improves digestion, makes the nerves
stronger and helps metabolism. Also good for fever illnesses. In a mixture
with 3 other teas (don't know the Eng. ), helps against non-appetite.
Works antiobiotically, against herpes, and increases urine output - thus
good for rheumatism, gout,. Fresh leaves helps heal pussy wounds, rashes.
The plant looks sort of like a thistle.
Eating during breastfeeding also works as a galactogue. Raglan and
Mottilium (domperdon) are used for stomach problems. Oatmeal keeps life's
juices alive. (works for me, tho I'm no longer making milk!) (I checked
Mitford's American Way of Birth, but there is no reference to oatmeal in
the index)
