<<Cabbage leaves DO NOT help milk supply, they hinder it. They are
a treatment for engorgement and mastitis, and you have to be careful with
how much they are used, because they can cause the milk supply to dry up>>
<<I have not heard this and would not advise anyone to. Cabbage is a
very useful substance to HALT milk production. Many of my Moms have used
it
and gotten wonderful results reducing engorgement and deminishing
oversupply.>>
Ok, I want to hear from some of you REALLY experienced people out there. I
think this drying-up fear about cabbage is unfounded, but if I'm wrong I'm
willing to change my mind. From what I've seen, cabbage is effective at
diminishing tissue edema (engorgement) only, and for that it's generally
wonderful. It has not one bit of effect on milk supply. I have had
mothers with mega-oversupply wear it round the clock for days with
absolutely no change. Of course it is helpful with emergency weaning and
bottle-feeding moms--it cuts down on the tissue edema, but it's the back
pressure on the alveoli that makes the milk dry up, not the cabbage.
