I agree with most of what was written about what Dr. Lawrence said. I
think the scissors hold is not as good, and mothers can be shown to use
the C hold without the problems mentioned.
Most exclusively breastfed babies have several stools a day in the first
3 or 4 weeks, but there is no reason they *must*. Several fair sized,
yellow bowel movements mean they are usually getting lots of milk, but
if a baby is getting lots of milk, but not having many stools, this is
okay, even if he is younger than 3 weeks. The absence of stools is a
red light that something may be wrong, and seriously wrong with the
intake of milk. But if the intake is good, there is no reason the baby
*must* have at least one stool a day. This may be splitting hairs, but
it is important I think. Put as it was in the post, we may begin to
worry more about the stools than the baby's intake of breastmilk.
