After 11 weeks of a gaping wound on her nipple, the mom I posted about
previously has  great pleasure in reporting that the wound is healed and
she is nursing comfortably. Suggestions from all of us that helped were to
figure out the best ways to prevent the nipple from folding down over
itself- the little strip of paper adhesive tape to lift up the flap part
was helpful for a couple days.  This mom finally had to allow herself to
rest the breast a bit--one feed a day for one week, then two feeds a day
for a couple days, then VOILA!  the wound in her words seemed to fill in
and heal overnight.

She continued using PureLan as her emollient, and did not seek any other
dermatological care as far as whehter she should  do an antibiotic cream,
or antifungal.

Bottom line seems to be tincture of time. Eleven weeks is a long haul. Wish
we always had the luxury of working with a mom who can be patient and see
the gradual improvements as baby steps towards an end, I love it when a mom
works through extreme difficulties--and makes it!!
